Walking Meditation 2 of 2
August 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Spiritualist Fellowship Church & Centre of Light and Learning
What if every step you took deepened your connection with all of life and imprinted peace, joy, and serenity on the earth? Through Walking Meditation, you will enjoy this serene spiritual practice to help you walk with presence and peace of mind whether in nature or on a busy city street. Walking Meditation done 2-3 times a week will help you feel better physically and recharge vitality while reducing stress, anger, and frustrations.
There are spiritual benefits gained by walking mindfully. Walk with your attention on the present to gently resist struggling with issues of the past or problems of the future. Touching the earth with our feet is an opportunity to live in the here and now reminding us to enjoy each step and each breath in order to regain peace in difficult moments. The simple practice of walking with attention and mindfulness can bring the spirit of prayer into our everyday life. This course will appeal to anyone who would like to get more out of walking, from long-time meditators to those who are just looking for a way to make their walk around the block more meaningful.
There is a Buddhist concept known as Apranihita, or the spirit of wishlessness, in which one neither pursues desires nor flees from discomforts. With Walking Meditation, practitioners from every spiritual tradition will rediscover our home in the here and now, as the long road we all must walk turns to quiet joy.
From this course will learn:
– What is Walking Meditation and its benefits;
– How to recognize the miracle in simply walking – not as a means to an end, but as the opportunity to touch the fullness of life;
– Indoor & outdoor exercises to learn & develop the skills utilized in Walking Meditation and variations that can be used for different purposes;
– Using walking meditation to work with difficult emotions such as anger and anxiety & inspire you by promoting greater creativity, positive attitude, tolerance and compassion;
